Red Flash Renew Rivalry With Duquesne for 2010 Season

LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 10, 2010) - The Saint Francis football team will take on its oldest foe on Saturday when the Red Flash travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Duquesne Dukes in a Northeast Conference contest.

The rivalry dates all the way back to the 1913 season, and while the Dukes have controlled the series throughout history, the clashes are often some of the fiercest in the annals of the Red Flash.  Of course, last season the Red Flash defeated Duquesne 31-14 in a game where Saint Francis running backs combined for a total of 409 rushing yards; that total is the most against a Division I opponent in SFU history.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.; make sure you tune in to The Edge 1400 AM or the Edge 850 AM, where Dr. Pat Farabaugh and Jay Roberts have the call.

ABOUT DUQUESNE

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 38th meeting between these two teams, with the Dukes holding the 31-6 advantage in the all-time series.  The oldest rivalry in Saint Francis annals, the series dates back to 1913, when Duquesne defeated Saint Francis 19-0.  In 1914 Saint Francis returned the favor by shutting out Duquesne 7-0 under first-year head coach Buck Rodgers.

Last season, the Red Flash snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Dukes dating back to 1992 when they defeated Duquesne 31-14 in the first ever night game at DeGol Field.  The Red Flash rushed for a total of 409 yards, with Jude Yearwood (Elkridge, Md./Howard) and Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) each going over 150 yards each.  It stands as the highest single-game total for a Saint Francis team against a Division I opponent in school history.

HOW THEY'VE FARED SO?FAR
The Dukes have bounced back from their 2009 season to post a respectable 5-4 overall record in 2010, and are in a four-way tie for fourth in the conference with a record of 3-3.  Duquesne was off last weekend, but before that dropped a 34-11 decision to the already-NEC?champion Robert Morris Colonials.

WHO TO WATCH

#44 Nathan Totino
Senior - 5-10, 210 - PIttsburgh, Pa. |?Seton-LaSalle

It must have been a good year for Western Pennsylvania linebackers in 2006-07, as Totino ranks among the best senior linebackers in the Northeast Conference.  A four-year starter for the Dukes, Totino ranked among the active Division I?(FCS)?leaders in tackles per game entering the 2010 season.  He is sixth in the conference with an average of 8.4 tackles per game.
