Men's Cross Country Takes Second at NEC Championship

Mills Takes Sixth leads team

FULL RESULTS

HOLMDEL, N.J. – The Saint Francis University men's cross country took second at the Northeast Conference Championship meet Saturday.

Chris Mills (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) led the way for the Red Flash taking sixth and earning all-conference honors with a time of 26:24.40. Saint Francis fell just 13-points shy of Central Connecticut State, who claimed the team title. The Flash's top finisher finished behind the Top two for CCSU but SFU's fourth and fifth runners finished ahead of CCSU's fourth and fifth runners.

Sean Kirby (Clarksville, Md./River Hill), Brent DiGiorgio (Armagh, Pa./United) and Shaun Foley (Hamilton, N.J./Notre Dame) did a great job of running together as a unit to put the pressure on CCSU but the Blue Devils were able pull on their third consecutive title thanks to Andy Pullaro and Ben Lazarus gutting out 19th and 20th place finishes respectfully.

Ryan Kennedy (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) took 13th overall and earned all-conference honors with his time of 27:16.30 on the 8-kilometer course. Kennedy ranked third among NEC freshman in the race and was just 11-second short of freshman of the year honors.

Kirby took 15th in a time of 27:19.70, he was followed tightly by GiGiorgio (27:21.10), who took 16th, and Foley, who earned 17th with a time of 27:22.60. Adam Mengel (Monaca, Pa./Center) took 32nd with a time of 28:06.00, while teammate Taylor crossed the line at the same time and earned a 33rd-place finish to round out the top seven for the Flash.

Saint Francis returns to action Nov. 12 at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship in Princess Anne. Md.
