LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 10, 2011) – The College Sports Information Directors of America announced the Capital One Academic All-District Teams Thursday with
John Kelly (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and
Jeff Wasilewski (Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria) taking first-team honors in District II. By landing on the first team, both Kelly and Wasilewski become candidates for the Capital One Academic All-America team, which will be named Dec. 8
Kelly holds a 3.85 grade point average and has already earned his undergraduate degree and is currently working on his masters. The Frederick, Md. native still holds one more season of eligibility with the Red Flash despite having already earned his undergraduate degree. Kelly has started all but one game for the Flash this season but has seen action in every game. Kelly ranks third all-time at Saint Francis in career passing yards, pass attempts, pass completions, touchdown passes and total offense. Of the eight quarterbacks on the national ballot, Kelly holds the second highest GPA and is one of just two graduate students.
Wasilewski holds a 3.90 grade point average and has only received one B in his academic career. The junior wideout posted a career-high 122-yards against Sacred Heart this season while racking up 221 total receiving yards and two touchdowns. The Ebensburg, Pa. native is also an active member in the community, having done volunteer work with special needs children. Wasilewski's brother Sean has a condition known as Apraxia which inspired Jeff to spend time as a counselor at Camp PARC, a seven-day overnight camp for mentally retarded people. Wasilewski has the fourth highest GPA among student-athletes advancing to the national ballot.
The Red Flash return to action to Saturday in SFU's regular season finale on the road against Bryant, kickoff is set for noon.
