LORETTO, Pa. (Aug. 10, 2011)
– The Saint Francis University Football team opened camp this past Sunday and Tuesday the Red Flash put on the pads for the first time.

“I like the way we practiced today I like the tempo with which we practiced today,” head football coach Chris Villarrial said. “We practicing hard we are practicing fast. We are getting that mental and physical toughness we need to win games.”

With over 60 freshmen on the rosters this season the Red Flash are currently working in two different groups. One of the groups practices earlier in the day and in the afternoon. In the afternoon group today the Red Flash lineman, running backs and linebackers started contact drills for the first time this season.

“It is nice to see the competition and it is nice to see the competiveness among the players,” Villarrial said. “It was not one sided today. The offensive did well on one play and the next play the defense would set up and that's always good to see.”

The Red Flash do not go to full pads until Friday, 21 days until they open the season against Wagner in Staten Island, N.Y. Following the practice defensive coordinator Jake Nulph talked about the first day of pads with SFUAthletics.com
