LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 30 2012) – The Saint Francis University football team announced its 2012 schedule that features four home dates and games against three NCAA tournament teams from 2011.
The Red Flash opens their season on Sept. 1 with a road game against James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. The Dukes posted a record of 8-5 a season ago in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. In the first round, James Madison knocked off Eastern Kentucky but the Dukes fell in the second round to eventual national champ North Dakota State.
Saint Francis opens its home schedule Sept. 8 with a contest that will feature two of the best running backs in the nation, as Bryant's Jordan Brown faces off with SFU's
Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area). The pair enters 2012 ranking first and third among active FCS players in all-purpose yards. The match up between the Red Flash and the Bulldogs will kickoff at noon at DeGol Field.
September 15, Saint Francis kicks off a season-long three-game road trip at Morehead State. The Eagles and the Red Flash posted a 50-49 shooting in 2011 that the Red Flash won thanks to outscoring MSU 19-0 in the final quarter. SFU rounds out non-conference play Sept. 22 against 2011 CAA regular season champion Towson. The Red Flash meets conference rival Duquesne Sept. 29 in Pittsburgh. Last season, the Dukes posted a 41-14 win against the Flash.
Saint Francis returns to DeGol Field Oct. 6 for a home game against conference rival Robert Morris. Wagner travels to Loretto Oct. 20, the match up follows the 2011 meeting when Dominique Williams and Harbridge both posted over 150 yards on the ground but Wagner prevailed 38-28. The Red Flash return to the road Oct. 27 with a trip to New Britain, Conn. The CCSU Blue Devils will look avenge a 27-17 loss to SFU in 2011, where SFU triumphed in near white out conditions.
The Red Flash round out their road schedule, following a bye week, Nov. 10 against Monmouth. Last season, the Hawks spoiled senior day for the Red Flash with a 48-45 win at DeGol Field.
