LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2012) – Robert Smith (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) of the Saint Francis University football team picked up National Honorable Mention Defensive Lineman of the Week honors from the College Football Performance Awards, Monday.
Smith racked up a SFU high 10 tackles against Robert Morris while also picking up a sack and a half against the Colonials. The effort by the redshirt-junior spearheaded a Red Flash defensive effort that held Robert Morris to just three points, the lowest total for a Colonial squad in 19 games against the Red Flash. Robert Morris drove inside the SFU 30-yard line five times Saturday but only came away with three points on the day. In addition to the two sacks by the Red Flash defense, SFU also picked up a pair of quarterback hurries and forced two turnovers, both coming inside the SFU 30-yard line.
The Red Flash returns to the road this weekend as they take on defending Northeast Conference Champion Albany with kickoff set for noon Saturday.
