LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 19, 2012) –The Saint Francis University football team saw two of its student-athletes earn Northeast Conference Player of the Week honors, Monday.
Kelly capped off his final college football season with Northeast Conference Player of the Week laurels after he led SFU past Sacred Heart and to a single-season Division I program record fifth victory. The senior quarterback threw three touchdown passes, and also did excellent work running the football. Spearheading a ground game that totaled 344 yards against the Pioneers, the senior signal caller rushed 29 times for 187 yards and one touchdown. Kelly finished the game responsible for 245 yards of total offense (58 pass, 187 rush) and four touchdowns (3 pass, 1 rush). He went 6-of-12 passing for 58 yards in his final collegiate contest. The native of Frederick, Md. did a majority of his damage in the second quarter rushing for 100 yards on 10 carries while also going 2-of-4 through the air with a touchdown.
Abeid continued his excellent rookie season and picked up his third Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week honor after helping SFU knock off Sacred Heart in SFU's 2012 season finale. Retaining the NEC Rookie of the Week honor he earned for his performance at Monmouth, Abeid totaled 100 all-purpose yards and one touchdown against the Pioneers. The native of Youngstown, Ohio rushed 11 times for 69 yards and a score and logged a 31-yard kickoff return. Abeid produced a 30-plus yard touchdown run for the second straight week when he sprinted into the end zone from 35 yards out to give the Flash a 17-3 lead midway through the second quarter.
