LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 19, 2012) –The Saint Francis University football team picked up a trio of honors from the College Football Performance Awards, Monday.
Jakob DeMedal,
John Kelly (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and
Josh Thiel (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) all earned national honorable mention honors at their respective positions. DeMedal, named National Honorable Mention Defensive Back of the Week, forced a pair of fumbles, picked up eight total tackles, two for loss, and registered a pass breakup in Saturday's win against Sacred Heart in the 2012 regular season finale. DeMedal led the Flash in 2012 with 88 tackles while also registering three forced fumbles, five tackles for loss and four pass breakups including an interception. Kelly rushed for a career-high 187 yards in his final game with the Red Flash and posted four touchdowns. Through the air, Kelly went 6-for-12 for 58 yards and three touchdowns. Thiel moved into first all-time at SFU in field goal makes, extra-points made and scoring with three field goals and five extra points against the Pioneers. Thiel also kicked off and averaged 59.4 yards a kickoff and registered one touchback. The win for the Red Flash moved them into fourth in the final Northeast Conference standings and gave them a record number of conference wins since the formation of the NEC.
