HAMARVILLE, Pa. (Feb. 10, 2012) – The Saint Francis University women's tennis team dropped a, 7-0, decision to Pittsburgh at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness on Friday. The road match kicks off a busy weekend for the Red Flash, which travels to George Mason on Saturday and hosts Bucknell on Sunday.
“I feel that going into these matches we are not fully prepared,” said head coach Paul Tobin. “Against Pitt, we made to many unforced errors and we lacked speed. We started off slow and never got the momentum going.”
“I have seen our women play better and I am hoping they can turn things around this weekend. It's not the loss that bothers me; it's the non-competitive scores. We are better than that.”
The Panthers swept through doubles play to go up, 1-0, and never looked back.
After a pair of lopsided Pittsburgh singles victories, freshman
Shivani Patel (Leicestershire, England/Repton School) put up the stiffest SFU opposition of the day. Ultimately, Taylor Washington took the no. 3 position with a, 7-5, 6-3, tally.
