SFU tennis teams raise $2,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand

LORETTO, Pa. (May 1, 2012)
– In the fall of 2011, the Saint Francis University tennis teams set a goal of raising $2,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand. The coaches and student-athletes were drawn to the charity's mission of raising money and awareness for childhood cancer causes and research into new treatments and cures.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fund-raising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope.

“I'm so proud of the fact that we were able to reach our goal of $2,000 to give to Alex's lemonade stand,” said SFU head coach Paul Tobin.  “Our goal of $2,000 per year will definitely add up in time and we are pleased to make this contribution in the fight to cure childhood cancer.”

The team was able to raise money by holding a fall tennis tournament as well as staffing actual lemonade booths during home football and basketball games. The Saint Francis University tennis program will continue its support of Alex's Lemonade Stand next season.
