LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2012) – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) named sophomore linebacker
Bishop Neal (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) of the Saint Francis University football team its Defensive Player of the Week, Tuesday.
The honor comes as part of a string of awards for the sophomore for Clairton, Pa. after he led the SFU defense to its first win against conference rival Bryant. Neal led the Red Flash with 13 tackles while also posting a tackle for loss, an interception and a safety against the Bulldogs. In addition to the honor from the ECAC, Neal also earned Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week and National Defensive Player of the Week from
The Sports Network. The ECAC is the largest conference in the United States, with 312 member schools in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, ranging in location from Maine to North Carolina. Neal enters the third week of the season ranking tied for second in the NEC in total tackles and tied for 25th nationally in tackles per game. Neal also ranks seventh nationally in tackles per game by an underclassman.
The Red Flash return to action this week as they travel to Morehead, Ky. for a non-conference showdown with the Eagles of Morehead State.
