- Last season, the Red Flash fell behind by 21 points to the Eagles before rallying with 19 fourth quarter points to earn a 50-49 win.
Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) posted an SFU record 346 yards on the ground and the Flash picked up the win in their home opener.
-
Bishop Neal (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) picked up several awards this week including NEC Defensive Player of the Week, ECAC Defensive Player of the Week and The Sports Network's National Player of the Week.
- In total three SFU players picked up Northeast Conference honors after the Bryant win, Neal (Defensive Player of the Week)
Grant Price (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) (Special Team's Player of the Week) and
Khairi Dickson (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) (Rookie of the Week).
- In just two college games, Dickson ranks second in the NEC in rushing and tied for 23rd nationally. Dickson ranks second-nationally in rushing per game among freshmen behind Norfolk State's Brendon Riddick.
- Neal enters the third week of the season ranking tied for second in the NEC in total tackles and tied for 25th nationally in tackles per game. Neal also ranks seventh nationally in tackles per game by an underclassman.
- Neal looks to continue on an SFU tradition of having one of the nation's top tacklers. In the past five seasons, the Red Flash have had at least one player rank in the top 12 in tackles nationally.
- After a slow start to the 2011 season,
John Kelly (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) opened his final season with the Red Flash with some sharp passing. The native of Frederick, Md. ranks fourth in the NEC in pass efficiency and 61st nationally.
- While most of the numbers on both sides of the ball are comparable from 2011 and 2012, two games in, the biggest change has been in the turnover category. The Flash have turned the ball over one fewer time this season through two games than last season and have forced three more turnovers through two games than they had last season.
- Against Bryant,
Kevin Wood (Butler, Pa./Knoch) pulled off the second successful on-side kick of his career. Wood stands as the only NEC kicker to successfully pull off an onside kick.
-
Mike Dennis (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck)' interception return against Bryant ranks as the third longest in school history and the longest by a player not named Matthew Parker.
-
John Kelly (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) moved into second all-time at Saint Francis in career total offense with his performance against Bryant. Kelly passed Kevin Magee, the last SFU quarterback to claim a conference title, and now sits 2,974 yards behind Anthony Doria for the SFU all-time record.
- The Red Flash picked off three or more passes for the third consecutive home opener. In 2010, SFU intercepted seven passes against Sacred Heart and then four against Morehead State followed by three this season against Bryant.
- This season will be the sixth-consecutive meeting between Saint Francis and Morehead State. The contests between the Eagles and the Flash have been historically very close with five of the seven meetings decided by 10 points or less.
QUITE A COMBINATION
Through two games this season,
Khairi Dickson (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) and
John Kelly (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) rank as the third-best quarterback/running back rushing combination in the nation behind Georgia Southern's Ezayi Youyoute (QB) Dominique Swope (RB) and South Dakota State's Azch Zaenner (RB) and Austin Sumner (QB). Kelly and Dickson have combined for 363 yards on the ground.
SOUND IN THE KICKING GAME
The Red Flash kicking combination of
Kevin Wood (Butler, Pa./Knoch),
Josh Thiel (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) and
Grant Price (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) have made the Red Flash one of the top kicking-units in the Northeast Conference. Thiel, a candidate for the Fred Mitchell Award, made his first field goal of the season against Bryant connecting on a 46-yard attempt. The make ranks as the second longest in school history. Thiel now holds the four longest kicks in SFU history and sits as the only Flash ever to make more than one kick of 45-plus yards. Price sits as one of the top punters in the nation ranking first in the NEC in punting and 15th nationally. The Fort Wayne, Ind. native pick up NEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors following the Bryant game after he placed four punts inside the Bulldog 20 yard line. Wood, the SFU kickoff specialist, grabbed headlines against Bryant by pulling off the second successful on-side kick of his career. In the past two seasons, the only NEC team that has successfully executed an on-side kick has been Saint Francis.
