POSTGAME INTERVIEW WITH JOE HAIGH
LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 28, 2013) – The Saint Francis U women's basketball team won its second consecutive Northeast Conference match-up as they took down the Robert Morris Colonials, 72-63, on Monday evening inside DeGol Arena.
Alexa Hayward (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) poured in a career-high 28 points to carry the Red Flash (11-8, 6-2) offense, as the sophomore guard hit five three-pointers in the first half and seven for the game. Artemis Spanou had a solid game for the Colonials (4-15, 3-5) with 21 points and 20 rebounds.
The Red Flash outscored the Colonials 12-4 over the final 2:53 en route to their sixth conference victory of the season.
Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) scored 10 of the team's final 14 points to lead SFU to its first win against its in-state conference rival since 2011.
"I thought the team played great tonight," SFU head coach
Joe Haigh said. "We limited our turnovers and it was a big improvement from last week. For us to play at that speed and not make a lot of mistakes was essential."
Williams tallied her first points of the game with 10:40 remaining in the second half and the Altoona, Pa. native went on to record her 13
th double-double effort with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Coming out of the locker room it was Hayward again who sparked the SFU offense. Hayward hit two more triples in the second half, one shy of the all-time SFU record.
Both teams were held scoreless for the first three minutes of the game until Spanou broke the tie at 16:54. Neither team shot particularly well in the first half of action, SFU was held under 35 percent. The Flash managed to only trail by one at the break, 32-31.
Saint Francis returns to action Saturday as they take on St. Francis Brooklyn at 2 p.m.

Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) was held scoreless for the first 29:20 of the contest, the first half all season she has been held without a point.

Nickia Gibbs (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt).
-Keegan scored five points and added five rebounds in her first start of the season.
-Hayward's 28 points are a career-high and her highest total since she scored 23 against Wright State on Dec. 21. Hayward missed matching the team record for 3-pointsin a game by one. Her seven 3's were the most for an SFU player since Alison Daly hit eight in the NEC tournament in 2010.
