Williams Scores 29 as SFU Routs UPJ in Exhibition Game

LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2013) – Behind a 29 point, 15 rebound game from Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle), the Saint Francis University women's basketball team beat the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown, 101-75, in the squad's lone exhibition match.

Six different Red Flash players posted double-figures in the win, including a 15 point, eight rebound night from sophomore Brooklyn Taylor (Greenville, Pa./Greenville).

"We did a lot of good things tonight," SFU head coach Joe Haigh said. "We rebounded the ball well, we played together, and we played hard for the whole game."

Saint Francis jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead to start the contest after a steal and lay-up from Samiah Bethel (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy). The Flash extended its lead to as much as nine before UPJ battled back to within one with 3:42 to play.

Shaqeia Stokes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) made a lay-up off a nice feed from Aisha Brock (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) and SFU embarked on a late 9-0 run to take a double-digit lead into the locker room. Williams had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the first half alone.

The Frankies came out of the break firing and extended their lead to 21 with 12 minutes to play. SFU kept rolling with its fast paced offense and fought off any Mountain Cat threats.

Corissa Archer (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge) notched 13 points in her SFU debut, while Rebecca Keegan (Jessup, Pa./Valley View) and Samiah Bethel (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) each added 10. Shaqeia Stokes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) posted 12 points to go along with four rebounds.

"We will need to work on our physicality for Penn State," Haigh continued. "Our intensity and defensive rebounding will be key pieces to focus on as we prepare for next week."

Saint Francis will begin its 46th varsity season on Nov. 8 as it travels to Penn State for a 7 p.m. match-up.
