Red Flash Fall to Colgate in Home Opener

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 16, 2013) – Colgate put up 51 first-half points en route to a 97-79 victory over the Saint Francis University women's basketball team in its 2013-14 home opener on Saturday evening.

Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) led the way for the Red Flash (0-2), the senior put up 30 points, tying her career-high. Williams also recorded a game-high 12 rebounds to complete her 38th career double-double, and first of the young season. Carole Harris led the Raiders (1-2) with 25 points on a 9-15 shooting night and added 10 rebounds.

"Tonight we just gave up to many one-on-one opportunities, we need to up our pressure defensively to avoid those situations," SFU head coach Joe Haigh said. "There are some things we have to work on to improve our defensive effort overall."

SFU never led in the contest as Colgate jumped out to an early seven-point advantage with 15 minutes to play in the first half. The Raiders extended their lead to as much as 23 in the first half before SFU started battling back.

The Frankies went on two small runs to close out the first period, but still trailed by 20 at the break.

Saint Francis went on a surge in the second half after Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) hit a few three-pointer's in a five-minute span; the margin was down to 12 with 9:05 to play.

Colgate then went on a 10-0 run down the stretch to put the game out of reach.

Aisha Brock (Jacksonville, Fla./Potter's House Christian Academy) chipped in with 12 points for the Flash, while freshman Erin Blaine (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) added 11 in her second career game.

"Aisha has produced in her larger role this year and I really liked what I saw from her tonight," Haigh continued.

Corissa Archer (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge) posted four points and six rebounds in her Saint Francis debut. The rebound battle was close as Colgate led 57-53. Saint Francis outscored Colgate 48-46 in the second half of play.

SFU will look to bounce back on Nov. 21 as it travels to George Mason for a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up.
