Women’s Basketball Sweeps Weekly NEC Awards

SOMERSET, N.J. (Dec. 2, 2013) – Following an 86-85 win against Howard last week, two Saint Francis University women's basketball players earned Choice Hotels Northeast Conference weekly honors. Alli Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) earned her second consecutive NEC Player of the Week nod, while Erin Blaine (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) claimed the NEC Rookie of the Week award.

Williams keyed Saint Francis' victory over Howard, combining a double-double with late-game heroics. The veteran forward produced 16 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and two steals in 28 minutes of action during the 86-85 victory.

She was at her best down the stretch, contributing three points, two assists and two rebounds over the final 2:34. With only 00:08 remaining in a tie game, Williams drew contact and went to the charity stripe where she would make SFU a winner. Williams missed her first shot, but sank the second to give the Red Flash their second straight victory.

The Altoona, PA product finished 7-of-16 shooting and made four of six attempts from the line. Williams, who poured in 40 points in a Nov. 24 win over East Tennessee State, remained amongst the top-15 scoring leaders in NCAA Division I. Her 23.0 points per game rank 13th overall (as of Dec. 1). This is Williams' ninth NEC Player of the Week award during her career at SFU. Williams also earned three NEC Rookie of the Week honors in 2010-11, totaling her weekly awards to 12.

Facing an opponent from her native Washington, D.C., Blaine put forth the best statistical performance of her month-old collegiate career. The freshman forward totaled 15 points and seven rebounds in the win over Howard.

Scoring in double figures for the fourth time in five games, Blaine was 4-of-10 shooting from the field and cashed in seven of nine attempts from the charity stripe. Nine of Blaine's 15 points came in the second half of what was Saint Francis' second straight win. The 6-foot forward, who played her high school ball at H.D. Woodson, is averaging 11.3 points per game to rank second amongst NEC rookie scorers.

Saint Francis returns to action on Wednesday night after it makes the trek to the University at Buffalo, tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
