Tennis teams raise over $5K to fight pediatric cancer

LORETTO, Pa. (April 23, 2013) – The Saint Francis University tennis teams continued their community service efforts to raise over $5,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand, a charity that raises funds to battle child cancer.

Last year the team raised $2,175 this year they took in $3,200 for a two-year total of $5,375. The team helped raise money by setting up a website devoted to collecting donations as well as selling lemonade at all the home football games and basketball games.

“It is my honor to help contribute to such a worthy cause,” said head coach Paul Tobin. “Not only are we helping children with cancer, but being keenly aware of how fortunate we all are, appreciative of the life we have and never taking anything for granted.”

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope.
