SOMERSET, N.J. (May 17, 2013) – The Northeast Conference announced its men's golf season awards Friday morning with Saint Francis U head coach
Derek Tyson being named NEC Coach of the Year and
Kevin Fawcett (London, Ontario, Canada/Oakridge Secondary) earning a spot on the All-NEC first team.
In his first season at the helm of the SFU men's golf program, Tyson guided the Red Flash to its third NEC title earlier this month. Saint Francis finished with a four-shot victory over runner-up LIU Brooklyn. Additionally, the team collected seven top-five finishes in 2012-13 and were the victors at the MAC Invitational back in September. This is the first NEC Coach of the Year honor for the men's golf program since Bob Hahn and Art Wurm took home the title in 2006.
Fawcett picks up his first all-conference honor after a breakout sophomore campaign. Not only did the London, Ontario native secure second place at the NEC Championship, but he also posted three top-five's and eight top-15 finishes throughout the course of the season. Fawcett shot his season-low round of 69 in the opening round of the NEC Championship. For the season, Fawcett averaged 75.8, the lowest on the Red Flash squad.
Saint Francis continues play at NCAA Regionals today in Pullman, Wash. with the second round of action.
