Round One Results
PULLMAN, Wash. (May 16, 2013) – The Saint Francis U men's golf team began NCAA Regional action on Thursday at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club and shot a team score of 300.
The Red Flash rank in 14th place in the field of 14 teams after round one and trail 13th place Princeton by eight strokes. Top-ranked California leads the competition after collectively shooting a team 265, 23-under par. St. Mary's (Calif.) is two strokes behind the Golden Bears.
Jeff Chastel (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) birdied the final two holes of his opening round to enter the clubhouse with a one-under par 71. Chastel sits in a tie for 36th in the 75-player field and totaled four birdies on Thursday. Freshman
Chris Stricek (Binghamton, N.Y./Windsor) fired a one-over par 73 to start his competition and is in a tie for 58th place.
James Ferguson (Altoona, Pa./Tyrone) collected four birdies during his round and finished with a score of 76, good for sole possession of 70th.
Kevin Fawcett (London, Ontario, Canada/Oakridge Secondary), currently in a tie for 73rd, shot an 80 on day one and
Shane Crampton (London, Ontario, Canada/Saunders Secondary) carded an 83, which places him in 75th place heading into Friday's second round.
Southern California's Sam Smith leads the individuals after he fired a 10-under par 62 in the opening round.
Saint Francis continues NCAA Regionals with the second round of play on Friday.
