SOMERSET, N.J. (June 14, 2013) – Two Saint Francis teams earned the highest GPA in the Northeast Conference in their respective sports, the 12-member league announced recently.
Coincidentally, they are two programs that also excelled in the arena in 2012-13.
The NEC regular season champion field hockey team compiled a collective 3.501 GPA to lead its sport. Under coach
Stacey Bean, the Red Flash rolled to its best season ever (12-6, 6-1 NEC) last fall, while placing 14 student-athletes on the SGI/NFHCA National Academic Honor Squad with GPAs of 3.30 or higher.
Likewise, the women's swimming team not only won its fourth-straight NEC Championship in 2012-13, but also led its NEC peers with a 3.525 GPA. In March, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America tabbed the Red Flash with a Team Scholar All America Award for the 13th straight semester.
With a collective 3.45 GPA during the fall 2012 semester, the Red Flash ranked ninth in the country among NCAA Division I women's swimming & diving programs.
Both teams also won the NEC's Team Sportsmanship Award, landing them the mythical 'NEC Triple Crown.'
