Strong SFU presence on All-NEC Outdoor Track & Field teams

Hoover earns NEC Women's Coach of the Year designation

SOMERSET, N.J. (June 4, 2013) – The Northeast Conference postseason Outdoor Track & Field all-conference selections and major award winners were announced Tuesday morning and Saint Francis University was in no short supply of either.

As announced at last month's championship meet, the Red Flash's Brittany Johnson (Vienna, Va./George C. Marshall) was reaffirmed as the women's Most Outstanding Track Performer, while Paris Cotman (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) nailed down Most Outstanding Rookie honors.

Rounding out SFU's major award winners was head coach Doug Hoover who, in his first season, earned the NEC's Women's Coach of the Year award.  The Red Flash women finished second in the 12-team field – an improvement of two spots from a season ago.

Hoover join's the men's golf team's Derek Tyson as the second first-year SFU coach to win league coach of the year honors this season.

Johnson, a junior sprinter, leads the Red Flash's All-NEC selections with a pair of first team selections that correlate with her wins in the 100m and 200m dashes.

Cotman made quite a splash in her first NEC outdoor championships, raking in a team-high four all-conference designations.  In addition to a pair of All-Rookie berths (200m, 400m), Cotman was named to the All-NEC First Team for her win in the 400m and to the Second Team in the 200m.

Jasmine Campbell (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls) (triple jump) and Jordan Collins (Bayport, N.Y./Bluepoint) (hammer throw) each landed on the 18-member All-Rookie squad.

Rounding out the women's selections, a pair of relay teams earned spots on the first team.  The team of Mykael Dixon (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mills), Alexis Hurd (Manchester, Md./North Carroll), Gabrielle McIntosh (Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy) and Johnson – the fastest 4x100m team in SFU history – was named to the list, as was the 4x400m entry of Maura Jones (Frostburg, Md./Mountain Ridge), Hurd, Nicole Leach (New Enterprise, Pa./Northern Bedford) and Cotman.

On the men's side, pole-vaulter Ryan Steinbugl (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) earned an All-NEC First Team selection in addition to an All-Rookie Team nod.  Junior Chris Fischer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona ) was named to the All-NEC Second Team in the steeplechase.
