Collins and Meyer Collect NEC Weekly Awards

LORETTO, Pa – The Saint Francis men and women's track & field teams collected weekly honors for their efforts at the Bucknell Bison Opener during this past weekend. Sprinter Daniel Meyer (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) earned NEC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while thrower Jordan Collins (Bayport, N.Y./Bluepoint) won NEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Meyer started his sophomore season on a roll by claiming two sprint victories at the Bucknell Bison Opener. In the preliminary round, Meyer completed the round in 7.00s and won the 60-meter dash final in 6.96s. Meyer missed the qualifying standards for the IC4A Championships by just 0.02, which made Meyer the NEC event leader and ranks 11th overall on the IC4A performance list. He easily breezed through the 300-meter dash field at Bucknell, running in 0.99 seconds sooner than the second place finisher. He also ran the third leg on Saint Francis' third-place 4x400 relay team.

Collins found herself atop of the NEC leader board during the season's opening week. The junior weight thrower hurled the 20 lb. implement 17.04m (55'11") to claim a sliver medal at the Bucknell Bison Opener. Her throw landed her in third place on the early-season ECAC performance list and is automatically qualified for the ECAC Championships in March.  Of all NCAA Division I weight throwers, Collins accounted for a top-30 national performance to start the season.

Saint Francis will compete next at the Penn State Relays on Jan. 9.
