Men’s Volleyball Announces 2015-16 Recruiting Class

LORETTO, Pa. (June 1, 2015) – The Saint Francis University men's volleyball team has announced the addition of 11 new student-athletes to its program for the 2015-16 year, head coach Mike Rumbaugh announced on Monday.
 
"Last season's class with this upcoming class promises to be a winning combination. The level of play in practice is going to be at an all-time high. With the 2015 class we have added size, strength, and ball control. Not only can these men play, they bring a lot to the classroom as well," said Rumbaugh, who enters his 18th season in 2015-16.
 
B.J. Blair – Setter – 6-4 – Bridgewater, N.J. – Bridgewater-Raritan

An All-State First Team selection and Player of the Year from Central Jersey, Blair joins the men's volleyball program out of Bridgewater-Raritan High School. His team was Co-County Champions and State Sectional Champions and he was also named a Somerset County Scholar-Athlete selection. Blair's club team earned a national ranking of No. 15 to end the season.
 
B.J. is the son of Cindy and Bart Blair and plans to major in Environmental Engineering at SFU.
 
Rumbaugh on Blair: "B.J. has been a starting setter for his high school and club team. His leadership and experience will be his biggest impact."
 
Patrick Bryan – Outside Hitter – 6-5 – Emmaus, Pa. – Emmaus
 
A member of four district championship teams at Emmaus High School, the outside hitter joins the SFU men's volleyball program. Bryan was named the Most Valuable player of his team and to the All-Conference First Team in 2015, as well as earning 2014 honorable mention accolades. He was also a member of his high school's golf team and was named to the EPC League All-Star Team.
 
Patrick is the son of Maureen and Robert Bryan and plans to major in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at Saint Francis U.
 
Rumbaugh on Bryan: "Patrick adds size to our outside hitting group."
 
Cole Carver – Middle Hitter – 6-7 – Hershey, Pa. – Hershey
 
A Mid Penn Conference All-Star team member and 2015 All-Conference selection, Carver comes to Loretto out of Hershey, Pennsylvania. Carver also played for Josh Breneman for his club team, which made a bid to nationals in Ohio in 2015.
 
Cole is the son of Cathleen Kaiser and Andrew Carver and plans to enroll in SFU's Business program.
 
Rumbaugh on Carver: "Cole only played one year of club volleyball. He will need some time to get his 10,000 swings, blocks, and other touches. The one thing he has that can't be taught is pure size."
 
Evan Feltz – Outside Hitter – 6-3 – Westerville, Ohio – St. Francis DeSales
 
Feltz joins Saint Francis U after an All-State First Team selection in 2014 at St. Francis DeSales High School where he played for his father Andrew Feltz. He was named the Ohio Player of the Year in 2014 and was team captain in 2014 and 2015. He piled up 748 kills during high school along with 187 aces, 165 blocks, and 192 digs. He also owns his high school's record for kills in a match with 31. His squad won the league championship in both 2013 and 2014.
 
Evan is the son of Patricia and Andrew Feltz and plans to major in Marketing at Saint Francis U.
 
Rumbaugh on Feltz: "Evan is the son of a high school coach. Since he grew up in the gym he has been around the game his entire life. He has great instinct for what is happening on the court. Evan is a great passer and has coaching in his blood."
 
Christian Graziano – Outside Hitter – 6-3 – Williamsville, N.Y. – Williamsville South
 
Graziano joins Saint Francis out of western New York, he was an All-WNY Second Team selection, as well as earning All-ECIC First Team honors and All-ECIC Second Team throughout his high school career. His volleyball squad won the conference championship two consecutive years. Graziano is also an accomplished track and field athlete, he holds the Williamsville South long jump and triple jump school records.
 
Christian is son of Anna and Mark Graziano and plans to enroll in SFU's Business program.
 
Rumbaugh on Graziano: "Christian is a big time jumper and will be a very intimidating attacker for us."
 
Hayden Herc – Middle Hitter – 6-5 – Eden, N.Y. – Eden
 
A two-time All-ECIC First Team selection, Herc hails from Eden, New York. The 6-5 middle hitter was also named to the All0WNY Second Team and earned Lockport All-Tournament Team honors twice. The two-time scholar-athlete played on an undefeated team for four seasons that was the division championship. Herc was a three-sport athlete in high school as he also played basketball and competed in track and field.
 
Hayden is the son of Heidi and John Herc and plans to enroll in SFU's History Education program.
 
Rumbaugh on Herc: "Hayden has high level training under his belt. He has been in the USA A-2 Development Programs."
 
Joseph Koszelak – Setter – 6-2 – North Tonawanda, N.Y. – St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute
 
A 6-2 setter, Koszelak hails from North Tonawanda, New York. He is the first player from his high school to play Division I volleyball, he was named to the All-Catholic First Team. He recorded 40 service aces, 105 digs, 621 assists, and team-high 56 blocks.
 
Joseph is the son of Colleen and Joseph Koszelak and plans to major in Accounting at Saint Francis U.
 
Rumbaugh on Koszelak: "Like Cole Carver, he only has one year of club volleyball experience. He needs more time to develop, but has great potential."
 
Jonathan Messa – Libero – 5-11 – 150 – Elmwood Park, Ill. – St. Francis
 
Messa makes the jump from St. Francis High School to Saint Francis University to join the men's volleyball program. He was an all-conference selection during both his junior and senior seasons and was named to the Illinois Sun Times list of Top 100 Players during his senior year. Messa's squad were regional champions his junior year. He set the school record for digs in a tournament with 91 and season record with 561 digs. His club team, Sports Performance, placed 13th overall at the boy's volleyball junior nationals in 2014.
 
Jonathan is the son of Michele and Carlo Messa and plans to major in Psychology at Saint Francis U.
 
Rumbaugh on Messa: "Jonathan plays for one of the oldest and most respected clubs in the country. His skill set has his team ranked in the top five in the country in juniors."
 
Cole Thompson – Outside Hitter – 6-3 – Roosmoor, Calif. – Los Alamitos
 
A four-year varsity letterman, Thompson comes to Loretto out of Los Alamitos High School on the west coast. He played for head coach Mike Whitcomb and was the team leader in kills and aces in both 2013 and 2014. Also in 2014, Thompson was First Team All-Sunset League and First Team All-Area by Long Beach Press-Telegram. He also plays on High Line Volleyball club team in California and was selected to 2014 USA Volleyball High Performance Boys Youth Continental Team.
 
Thompson also excels in the classroom as he carried a near-perfect 3.98 GPA in high school to go along with National Honor Society credentials. He is the son of Melinda and Rob Thompson and plans to major in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at Saint Francis U.
 
Rumbaugh on Thompson: "Cole has seen the highest level of competition of any incoming recruit in the class. The Sunset League is arguably the toughest league in the country. He will add stability and confidence at the outside hitter spot."
 
Gabe Woffindin – Outside Hitter – 6-3 – Allentown, Pa. – William Allen
 
A 6-3 outside hitter, Woffindin recorded 416 kills during his senior season at William Allen High School, which set a school record. He also holds the career kills record with 853 and the career aces record with 79. He was selected to the All-Conference First Team during his junior and senior seasons. Woffindin also played for the Club Lehigh volleyball team and his squad made it to nationals on six different occasions.
 
Gabe is the son of Jan and Phil Woffindin and plans to major in Business at Saint Francis University.
 
Rumbaugh on Woffindin: "Gabe is the best libero on the East Coast Junior team. He is just a pure natural at passing."
