LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis University football team finished out its second week of training camp with an Offense-Defense format scrimmage on Saturday at DeGol Field.
The Red Flash defense earned stops on the first four drives of the scrimmage with tough run defense, especially up the middle. The offense finally got on the board on a seven-yard run by sophomore running back
Marcus Bagley (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights), one of his three touchdowns on the day. The drive was led by junior quarterback
Zack Drayer (Hershey, Pa./Hershey ).
On the next possession, freshman quarterback
Andrew Koester (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) led an impressive drive that ended on a 20-yard strike in the back corner of the end zone to fellow freshman
Dennis James (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep).Â
The defense responded by ending the next three possessions with interceptions.
With a possession starting on the 10-yard line, Koester scored on a third-down scramble from the eight yard line.
On the following drive, after two completions, shifty sophomore
Byron Johnson (Germantown, Md./Northwest) took a hand-off 45 yards for a touchdown. Johnson patiently waited for the hole to open and burst through the middle of the defense.Â
With another possession beginning on the 10, Bagley found the end zone for the second time, scoring on a two-yard run. A few possessions later, in the two-minute drill, Drayer led the Red Flash on an 80-yard drive, capped by Bagley's third touchdown, another two-yard run.Â
Training camp continues next week as Saint Francis prepares for the 2015 season opener against Georgetown on September 5.
