Drayer Touchdown Caps Game-Winning Drive As Saint Francis Takes Down Duquesne, 14-10

LORETTO, Pa. – Senior quarterback Zack Drayer (Hershey, Pa./Hershey ) found the end zone on Third and Goal from the one yard-line with 50 seconds left to give Saint Francis a 14-10 win over Duquesne on Friday night at DeGol Field on Homecoming weekend.  The Red Flash, trailing 10-7 with 5:11 left in the game, drove 63 yards in 10 plays for the game-winning drive.  Saint Francis improved to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the NEC, while Duquesne dropped to 4-3 and 1-1 in conference play.
 
Saint Francis now has a four-game win streak and has earned a 3-0 start in conference play for the first time since joining the Northeast Conference in 1996.
 
The Red Flash totaled 251 yards on the day, but got two key scores from Drayer.  SFU passed for 157 yards and ran for 94.
 
Drayer completed 9-of-22 passes for 157 yards and an interceptions, but had two big one-yard touchdown runs to end each half.  Marcus Bagley (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) ran for 86 yards on 16 carries, including 55 yards in the fourth quarter.  Kamron Lewis (Fresno, Calif./Edison) caught four passes for 135 yards, including an 83-yard reception in the second quarter.  Marcus Alston (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) added two catches for 13 yards. 
 
Duquesne totaled 322 yards, with 150 passing and 172 rushing.  Saint Francis, the FCS leader in sacks entering the game, was held to zero sacks for the first time this season.  However, the Red Flash got two key interceptions to raise its total to 14 picks on the year.  Saint Francis held its fourth straight opponent to 10 or less points and sixth straight to 20 or less points.
 
Delondo Boyd (Indian Head, Md./Henry E. Lackey), Solomon Leaeno (Kapolei, Hawaii/James Campbell) and Wesley Nagaseu (Waipahu, Hawaii/Waipahu) tied for the team-lead with seven tackles each.  Leaeno had five solo stops and 1.5 tackles for loss, while Nagaseu had four solo tackels and two tackles for loss.  Boyd had half a tackle for loss.  Nagaseu also broke up two passes at the line.
 
Jermaine Ponder (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) recorded his first interception in the second quarter, while Jalen Wells (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) had his second interception in as many weeks to seal the victory in the fourth quarter.
 
The Dukes quarterback Dillon Buechel completed 13-of-34 passes for 150 yards and two interceptions.  Running back A.J. Hines continued an impressive freshman season with 123 yards and a score on 25 carries, while P.J. Fulmore added 49 yards on 13 attempts.  Blair Roberts led the receiving corps with five catches for 45 yards.  However, SFU held the NEC-leading receiver Wayne Capers to just two catches for 41 yards.
 
Safety Abner Roberts led the Duquesne defense with eight tackles.  Defensive end Jake Radziukinas added seven, including one for loss, while Nathan Stone and Carter Henderson each had six stops and a sack.  Cornerback Jonathant Istache recorded an interception.
 
Duquesne got on the board first with a field goal in the second quarter.  Austin Crimmins hit a 26-yard field goal with 7:50 left in the first half.  The field goal completed a 15-play, 52-yard drive for Duquesne that covered 6:20.  The drive was extended by an SFU penalty on a Duquesne punt.
 
The Red Flash took the lead on a one-yard sneak by Drayer with 38 seconds left in the first half. After an interception by Jermaine Ponder (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney), the Red Flash took over at its 17.  On the first play of the drive, Drayer hit Lewis down the right sideline.  Lewis broke a tackle and picked up 82 yards to the one yard-line.  On the next play, Drayer found the end zone on a sneak.  Lance Geesey (Harrisburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley)'s extra point gave SFU a 7-3 lead.
 
Duquesne re-took the lead on a one-yard touchdown run by Hines with 8:43 left in the third quarter.  The Dukes' Istache returned an interception to the SFU 44, a 24-yard return. A 33-yard pass to Capers on the first play of the drive to setup Duquesne with First and Goal at the SFU 9.  Three plays later, Hines found his way into the end zone. Duquesne led 10-7 after Crimmins' extra point.
 
Saint Francis finally got the touchdown it needed to take the lead with 50 seconds to go in the game.  Drayer found his way in another one-yard run, this time on Third and Goal.  Drayer capped a 10-play, 63-yard drive, covering 4:21.  Drayer hit Lewis for a 22-yard gain on a key third down to get the drive going.  From there, Bagley carried it five times for 42 yards, including a 20-yard run to help setup SFU inside the Duquesne 2.  Three plays later, Drayer snuck in to give the Red Flash a lead. Geesey's extra point made it 14-10.
 
On the ensuing Duquesne drive, the Dukes got the ball down to the SFU 47.  Buechel hit Nehari Crawford for a 20-yard gain on the first play of the drive and then hit Chavas Rawlins for an 11-yard gain on a 4th down play.  However, on the next play after the first down to Rawlins, Buechel's pass was picked off by a diving Wells to seal the Red Flash victory.
 
Saint Francis continues NEC play next Saturday at Sacred Heart.  The Red Flash and Pioneers are scheduled for a Noon kick, broadcast on NEC Front Row.  The Pioneers are 5-1 entering tomorrow's game vs. Robert Morris.
