Tracking the Prospects: A Track and Field Season Preview

Loretto, Pa- Your Saint Francis Red Flash track and field teams are looking forward to successful seasons with a wealth of returning starters and plenty of newcomers.

WOMEN 
Senior Danae Peters (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) is the 30th leading scorer in SFU history at the NEC indoor championships.  She has scored 16.25 points through her first three championships (1.25 as a freshman, 5 as a sophomore, and 10 as a junior).  She scored in the 3000m and 5000m in each of the last two championships, and was the team's leading scorer at last year's meet.  Peters enters her final season ranked 4th in the 3000m (10:14.52) and 5th in the 5000m (17:50.54) in SFU's all-time record book.

 Junior Hannah Weber (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) is the team's 33rd leading scorer.  She has tallied 13.5 points in her first two NEC indoor championships (9.5 as a freshman and 4 as a sophomore).  She is a middle distance specialist who has scored her points in the 800m and Distance Medley Relay.  She took second in the 800m as a freshman.  Weber is currently ranked 3rd in the 800m (2:17.25), 6th in the 1000m (3:02.39), and 9th in the 1 Mile (5:08.75) on SFU's all-time performance list in those events.

 Junior Taylor Thurnherr (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) is the 43rd leading scorer.  She has earned 11 points during her first two indoor NEC championships in the pole vault.  She took 4th as a freshman and 3rd as a sophomore.  Thurnherr has already qualified for this year's ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championship and currently ranks 2nd all-time for SFU in the event (11' 11.75").

 Senior Hannah Dorian (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) is the 52nd leading scorer.  She scored 8.25 points in two NEC championships.  As a freshman and a junior she scored in both the 1 Mile and the Distance Medley Relay.  Dorian enters this season ranked 8th in the 800m (2:20.88), 5th in the 1000m (3:01.95), 3rd in the 1 Mile (5:02.08), 6th in the 3000m (10:20.52), and 7th in the 5000m (17:58.62) on SFU's all-time performance list in those events.  She also ran on SFU's school record Distance Medley Relay team three years ago (12:03.97).

 Junior Shayla Rivers (Sicklerville, N.J./Winslow Township) is the 53rd leading scorer.  She earned all eight of her points at last year's NEC indoor championship as a sophomore.  She took 3rd in the triple jump, 8th in the 60m hurdles, and ran the 400m leg of the Distance Medley Relay.  Rivers currently ranks 4th in the 60m hurdles (9.26) and triple jump (36' 11.75") all-time for SFU.

 Junior Selena Damiano (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) scored in both the throws at last year's NEC indoor championship.  She took 5th in the Shot Put and 8th in the Weight Throw, earning 5 points.  Damiano currently ranks 10th on SFU's all-time performance list in the indoor shot put (41' 2.25")

 Senior Morgan Kiebler (Export, Pa./Kiski) scored 3 points last year in the 3000m and 5000m races at the NEC indoor meet, taking 8th and 7th, respectively.  Kiebler enters her final season ranked 8th in the 3000m (10:22.00) and 6th in the 5000m (17:55.58) all-time for Saint Francis.

 Three other scorers return from last year's indoor NEC championship.  Junior Grace Baldessaro (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) took 7th in the pole vault, after finishing fifth as a freshman.  Sophomore Dayna DeSalve (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Area/) took 8th in the long jump.  Finally, senior Alyssa Sniechoski (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) took 8th place in the pole vault, after finishing 7th as a freshman and 6th as a sophomore.

Numerous other returners, and a talented group of 16 freshmen, are also expected to contribute this year. For example, at the team's first meet in December, freshman Taylor Weaver (Butler, Pa./Butler) broke a 14-year old SFU record in the pole vault with her clearance of 12' 3.5".

MEN
Senior Bryce England (Williamsburg, Pa./Williamsburg) enters this season as the 18th leading scorer in SFU history at the indoor NEC championships.  He has earned a total of 35 points so far in his career (5 as a freshman, 10 as a sophomore, and 20 as a junior).  He was the team's leading scorer at last year's NEC indoor championship.  He won the 3000m, took 2nd in the 5000m, and ran a leg of the 2nd place Distance Medley Relay.  He also qualified for the IC4A Championship in the 3000m and 5000m last year.  England enters his senior year ranked 5th in the 3000m (8:18.55) and 4th in the 5000m (14:30.56) all-time for Saint Francis.

Junior Dashaun Jackson (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) was the second highest scorer for the team at last year's NEC indoor championship.  He earned 11.5 points by taking 4th in the 60m Hurdles, 5th in the 200m dash, and running a leg of the winning 4x400m Relay team.  He currently is the 45th leading scorer in SFU history with 12.5 career points.  Last year, he also qualified for the IC4A Championship in the 60m hurdles.  He also established a new SFU record in the hurdles last year (8.08).

Senior Daniel Meyer (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) was the third leading scorer on the team last year, with 10.5 points.  He took 2nd in the 200m and also ran a leg of the winning 4x400m Relay team.  With 13.75 career points at the indoor championships, he currently sits at 43rd on the SFU list.  Last year he qualified for the IC4A Championship in the 200m dash.  Meyer enters his final indoor season as the SFU school record holder in the 200m (21.58).  He is also ranked 4th in the 60m (6.96) and 2nd in the 300m (35.31) all-time for Saint Francis.

Sophomore Christian McFadden (Odenton, Md./Arundel) took 3rd in the 60m dash and ran a leg on the winning 4x400m Relay team, to earn 8.5 points as the team's fourth leading scorer.  He also competed in the IC4A Championship in the 60m dash.  McFadden enters his sophomore campaign as the SFU record holder in the 60m dash (6.90).

Junior Nick McKnight grabbed a 3rd place in the high jump at last year's NEC indoor championship to earn 6 points.  That was his second time scoring in the high jump, giving him 8.5 career points in the indoor championships.  McKnight is currently the 8th ranked high jumper all-time for Saint Francis, with a personal best clearance of 6' 6.25".

Junior Easton Plummer (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) took 4th place in the pole vault last year at the indoor NEC meet to contribute 5 points.  Plummer enters this season ranked 4th all-time for SFU with a best clearance of 14' 9".  Fellow junior Dmitry Borissov (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area), who took 5th place to contribute 4 points at last year's NEC indoor meet, joined him in the pole vault.  He is ranked 7th all-time for SFU (14' 3.25").

 Sophomore John Proctor (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) and junior Zack White each contributed 3 points at last year's NEC indoor meet.  They took 6th in the Triple Jump and 5000m, respectively.  Proctor is currently ranked 8th in the long jump (22' 2.25") and 7th in the triple jump (44' 8.75") all-time for SFU.
 
Other scorers from last year's NEC indoor championships who return this year are:  junior Jay Stone (York, Pa./Central York) (4x400m Relay), sophomore Keith Leckenby (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) (Distance Medley Relay), sophomore Mark Njenga (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) (Triple Jump), and junior Mike Strosko (Distance Medley Relay).

Junior Jeremie Venne (Greely, Ontario, Canada/Ecole secondaire catholique Franco-Cite/ University of Ottawa) missed last year's indoor season with an injury.  But, he scored 10.25 points in his freshman season at the indoor NEC championship two years ago in the 800m, 1 mile, and Distance Medley Relay.  He was the team's third leading scorer that year and qualified for the IC4A Championship in both the 800m and the 1 Mile.  Venne enters this season ranked 8th all-time for SFU in the 800m (1:54.01) and 6th in the 1 Mile (4:11.62).

 Senior Blake Over (Roaring Spring, Pa./Northern Bedford) enters this season ranked 7th all-time for SFU in the long jump (22' 4.5") and 10th in the triple jump (44' 3.25"), having scored 4 points previously at the NEC indoor championship in his sophomore year.

 A solid core of other veterans, and a strong freshman class of 13 men, should also contribute this year.  In his collegiate debut, freshman Christopher Frederick (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) raced to times that rank him 4th all-time for SFU in the 60m dash (6.96) and 10th all-time in the 200m dash (22.22).
