LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Saint Francis Football team earned the biggest win in program history on Saturday, with a 13-7 win over No. 22 Liberty. The Red Flash battled for all four quarters, holding the Flames scoreless for the 57 minutes of the game. Saint Francis improved to 3-1 overall, while Liberty fell to 3-2.

The Red Flash earned the program's second win over a Top 25 team, joining it's 30-27 win over No. 24 Sacred Heart on October 25, 2014. Liberty is in its FBS-transition year before it makes the jump to the 85-scholarship level next year. Liberty opened the season with a 48-45 win over Baylor, a Big 12 school.

Saint Francis totaled 275 yards on the day, including 183 passing and 92 rushing. SFU helped itself by committing no turnovers.Â

Junior quarterback
Bear Fenimore (Austin, Texas/Westwood) completed 23-of-35 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Junior
Kamron Lewis (Fresno, Calif./Edison) caught 10 passes for 95 yards, including a 23-yard score. Senior tight end
Matt Valenzuela (Sterling, Va./Dominion) had three catches for 33 yards, including a nine-yard touchdown grab and graduate student
Jorge Solano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) caught seven passes for 27 yards. Junior

Andrew Zecca (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov. Livingston) was one of SFU's biggest weapons on the day, averaging 40 yards per punt on 12 kicks. He had a long of 62 yards and placed five inside the 20.Â

The Red Flash defense allowed 338 yards, including 219 passing and 119 rushing, but forced four turnovers, with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. SFU held the Flames, who entered the game averaging 39.5 points per game, to just seven and became the first team to shutout Liberty in a half this season.

Da'Jon Lee (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) led the defense with a career-high 12 tackles, including nine solo, three for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble. Junior linebacker
Sean Orsini (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) made seven stops, four for loss, and recovered a fumble, while safeties
Delondo Boyd (Indian Head, Md./Henry E. Lackey) and
Hakeem Kinard (York, Pa./York Catholic) each had six tackles, with Kinard adding a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.Â

Malik Duncan (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) had a pick in the third quarter, his second of the season. Junior
Louie Gartner (Bloomfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) added a tackle for loss.

Liberty quarterback Stephen Calvert completed 21-of-42 passes for 219 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Kentory Matthews had five rushes for 50 yards, while Carrington Mosley had 36.  Damian King caught seven passes for 61 yards, while Antonio Gandy-Golden was limited to 50 yards on six catches. Cephas Reddick made three grabs for 70 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown catch.

Chris Turner led the Liberty defense with 10 tackles, including eight solo, two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup. Juwan Wells contributed nine stops, with two for loss, 1.5 sacks and a pass breakup. Four Liberty players had seven tackles, including Dia'Vante Brown's seven stops and a sack.

The Red Flash got the first points of the game on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Fenimore to Valenzuela with 18 seconds left in the first half. After a punt by Zecca was downed at the Liberty 6, SFU forced a three-and-out, including a sack by Lee. Liberty's punt was returned by Lewis to the Liberty 19. An eight-yard reception by Lewis helped to setup the touchdown throw to Valenzuela. The extra point was blocked on the play. SFU led 6-0 at the half.

Saint Francis extended its lead to 13-0 on a ridiculous 23-yard touchdown catch by Lewis on a throw to the corner of the end zone by Fenimore. Lewis went over two Liberty defenders to make his fifth touchdown grab of the season. After an interception by Duncan at the SFU 42, the Red Flash put together a five-play, 58-yard drive. Fenimore hit
Terell Johnson (Burlington, N.C./Cummings) on the sideline for a 19-yard gain on a key third down play. After an eight-yard reception by Solano, Fenimore hit Lewis in the corner of the end zone. After
Eric Bofenkamp's (Warren, Ohio/John F. Kennedy) extra point, the Red Flash led 13-0 with 4:39 left in the third quarter.

The Flames got on the board on a 32-yard touchdown catch by Reddick with 2:35 left in the game. Liberty began the drive at their 23 with 4:02 remaining. A 14-yard catch by Frankie Hickson and a 26-yard grab by Reddick moved the Flames into SFU territory at the SFU 37. On third-and-five at the SFU 32, SFU forced a fumble, which it recovered, but replay review determined that it was an incomplete pass. On fourth down, the Flames threw to the end zone, with Reddick making the scoring grab. Saint Francis led 13-7 with 2:35 to go.

After SFU recovered an onside kick, the Red Flash was stopped on fourth and one at the Liberty 24. The Flames took over with 44 seconds left. Liberty picked up a first down on a 12-yard catch by Reddick. On the next play, Calvert was hit from behind by Lee, which knocked the ball loose and Orsini recovered at the SFU 49 to seal the victory.

The Red Flash is back on the road next week as it travels to Presbyterian on Saturday, October 7 for a 1 p.m. contest. The Blue Hose are 2-3 this season after falling 31-7 against No. 7 Wofford.
