Softball Drops First Game at Phoenix Invite Against James Madison

ELON, N.C. – Saint Francis University softball fell in five innings to James Madison, 10-2. The Red Flash played only one of their two scheduled games Friday after the first matchup against Fordham was canceled.  
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
» Rachel Marsden (1-2) went 3.1 innings pitched and allowed seven runs (three earned) on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
» Olivia Ulam went 1-for-3 with one run scored, while Marsden scored the other Red Flash run.
» Ashley Wruble recorded the only Saint Francis RBI of the game.
 
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
» Saint Francis recorded three errors in a row in the first inning and James Madison capitalized with four runs. The Dukes scored two of its runs directly off an error and the other two on RBI groundouts.
» In the bottom of the first, Saint Francis loaded the bases and scored on a wild pitch and walk to cut the deficit to 4-2. In the second inning, James Madison's Hannah Shifflett hit a home run to extend the lead to 5-2.
» In the fourth inning, James Madison scored five runs off of two doubles and two triples and took a 10-2 lead. With Saint Francis unable to score any runs in its final six at-bats, the Dukes clinched their victory.

FLASH NUGGETS
» Grace Vesco recorded one strikeout in relief and raised her career total to 412 - four shy of fourth in program history.
» Wruble recorded her first RBI of the season, while Marsden and Ulam earned their first run scored.
