Women's Soccer gears up for Matchup with Niagara

OPENING PITCH

Saint Francis University women's soccer heads up to Niagara Falls, N.Y., for a matchup against Niagara in their second consecutive away game. The Red Flash will look to gain some momentum after an 0-2 start. The series between the two sides began on Sep. 16, 1989 with Saint Francis losing to the Purple Eagles in the Niagara Tournament.

This will be the thirteenth time that Saint Francis and Niagara will play each other and the seventh to take place in Niagara Falls.

THE WORD ON NIAGARA

The Purple Eagles will enter this matchup even with Saint Francis at 0-2 after losses to Minnesota and St. Thomas during their season-opening road trip to the North Star State.

Niagara was selected to finish third in the preseason Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) coaches poll. Emily Hähnel has the lone goal on the season for the Purple Eagles

LAST TIME WE MET
The last time Saint Francis and Niagara played in a regular season matchup was on Sep. 11, 2022 in a game that the Red Flash won 1-0 in Loretto. Colletta Ozbey (Pittsburgh, Pa.) gave Saint Francis a lead it would never relinquish in the 21st minute off of an assist from Rita Kendziora (Duncansville, Pa.).

FLASH NUGGETS
The Sep. 23, 1991 matchup between the Red Flash and the Purple Eagles saw Michelle Sullivan set the program record for saves in game with 33 on the day.

UP NEXT
The Red Flash return home on Sunday, Aug. 27 for a matchup against longtime conference rival Robert Morris. Kick off will be at 4:00 p.m. at Stokes Soccerplex.
