LORETTO, PA- Saint Francis broke open a three-point game with a 22-2 run and put six players in double figures in a 87-59 triumph over Central Connecticut on Saturday afternoon inside DeGol Arena.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Red Flash run started in the second quarter as they closed the half on a 7-2 run to lead 37-29.
Ace Harrison (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor (Maryland)) had five of the seven points in the run, but the key play was a block by
Courtney Zezza (Plum, Pa./Plum), who erased a lay-up by Ashley Berube as time expired in the first half. SFU then opened the second half on a 15-0 run over the first five minutes of the quarter to put the game out of reach.Â
FIRST QUARTER RECAP
- Both teams got off to a slow start with SFU missing their first three shots
- A three-point play by Kyasia Duling (Zanesville, Ohio/New Albany (Duquesne)) got the Red Flash offense going
- Neither team led by more than three and the game was tied five times in the first quarter
- A jumper by Andi Lydon gave CCSU a 13-11 lead but Saint Francis would answer right back on layups by Kovatch and Leah Morrow (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Africentric), CCSUÂ never led again

SECOND QUARTER RECAP
- After a CCSUÂ basket, the Red Flash ripped off a 8-0 run paced by threes by Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) and Caitlyn Kroll (Bridgeport, Ohio/Bridgeport) to lead 30-19
- The Blue Devils would answer with a run of their own as a pair of Ashley Chin threes sparked a 8-0 run of their own to cut the SFU lead back to three at 30-27
- The game's defining run started with a Duling lay-up and continued with five-straight from Harrison
- The Red Flash defense held CCSU to just two points over the final three minutes, capped by a monster block by Zezza at the end of the half, one of her three on the day
- SFU took a 37-29 lead into the locker room
THIRD QUARTER RECAP
- SFU started quickly in the third quarter scoring five points in the first minute on a Kroll layup and a Harrison steal leading to a Kovatch three, forcing a CCSU timeout
- The Red Flash kept pouring it on as Harrison, Kovatch and Zezza each hit buckets while the SFU defense forced one-and-dones from CCSU
- Saint Francis forced seven-straight CCSU misses to start the quarter, fueling the 15-0 run
- The lead grew to as many as 24 in the quarter before CCSU got a pair of threes from Kiana Patterson to help stop the run
- The Red Flash led 63-44 after three quarters
FOURTH QUARTER RECAP
- The Red Flash hit their first eight shots of the quarter to put the game completely out of reach
- SFU again held CCSU without a field goal for the first four minutes of the quarter
- Threes by Swogger and Kovatch helped the lead hit its high-water mark at 33
- Saint Francis limited the Blue Devils to just 25 percent shooting in the quarter and cruised to a 29-point victory

- Six players scored in double figures for SFU as Kovatch had 17, Kroll and Harrison each had 15, Swogger had 14, Zezza had 12 and Duling had 11
- With her 17, Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) passed Lex Hayward for fourth place on the SFU all-time scoring list
- Tiffany Slicklein and Kiana Patterson each had 9 for CCSU, but they shot just 33 percent from the field and 26 percent from three
- The Red Flash dominated the glass, earning a 46-36 edge including a 23-7 edge on second-chance points
